Me llamo La Shella Eversley. I quite enjoyed learning Spanish, it evoked a new interest and a desire to add a new chapter to my life. The content was quite relevant, informative, accurate, clear and relative.I acquired alot of new information that I was not quite aware of,so I should say Spanish brought about awareness for me. I did not realize that Spanish was so widely spoken within the Caricom Nations. I was also enlightened about the cultures of my Spanish speaking neighbors and their respective environments e.g mountain ranges that runs through the different countries etc. What was also very interesting is that I noticed Spanish can be diversified and it lent itself or should I say shared content with other courses that im doing at C.P.C.E.
I appreciated the use of the computer and the initiative of the lecturer,Ms.Wilburg to encompass this in her teaching method. The use of the computer allowed me to do the tasks given, at times that were convient to me,sometimes even at 2:00am if I so desired,or while doing my household chores, as i'm doing right now. The use of the computer was very conducive for me and my learning, because even though at times the lecturer was unavailable due to unavoidable circumstances, the tasks was always there waiting on us,so we never fell a step behind. It was up to us whether we wanted to do it or not, as it was said to us repeatedly "you are responsible for your own learning" and to an extent, that is exactly what it was, so it even may have made, some of us more responsible individuals.
The tasks given to us.... well!, I must admit I was overwhelmed at times and sometimes, I even thought they were impossible for me to accomplish. I think the tasks though, were very relevant and gave me insights to spanish and made me realize there are many dimensions to the language and so many ways that it can be taught. Some of these tasks enlightened me on how I can identify my students different capabilities and abilities (Gardener's Multiple Intelligences Theory and Krashen's Low affective Filter) and how I can create a conducive learning environment. I also blogged for the first time, never found it interesting until it was given to me as a task, now I think I may become a frequent blogger. Some of these task also shed light on the fact that if u tap within yourself you may find talents and creativity you never knew you had, the task of the pop up book did just that for me,if I may say so "it got my creative juices flowing" even I was surprised at myself. So I reiterate, I thought the tasks were relevant.
I always found spanish to be an interesting and exciting language, and this course just endorsed my opinion and even strengthened it,....thank you Ms.Wilburg. I can candidly say that I enjoyed this course and liked the way it was taught to us.
The only recommendation I can think of at this point, is to say, that this course should continue to be taught the way it is being taught and if possible, more technological aspects should be integrated into this process. In saying that, this comes to mind.."meh a warn allyuh"..(laughing)...I loved it when Ms.Wilburg would say that to us,always made me laugh.......
